Plenary Sessions: Are Technology & Innovation The Answers To Today’s Drilling Challenges
Keynote Presentation:
09.00 Can Today’s Advanced Drilling Tools Make The Unfathomable Possible?
Today’s drilling environment has undergone an aggressive transformation in the development of technology and innovative practices to address the need for increased optimization in the drilling industry. The advanced drilling tools
used today make these once unfathomable imaginings possible. This presentation will discuss those advances.
Omar Al-Husaini
Manager, Gas Development, Drilling & Workover
SAUDI ARAMCO
Omar has over 27 years experience in Drilling Engineering and Operations. He holds an MS degree in Petroleum Engineering and has written numerous technical papers on the subject.
09.40 How Far Are We From The Drilling Limit And How Can We Address Challenges And Deal With The New Situation?
Drilling The Limit (DTL) technology has achieved great success in cost and time savings. Now, more wells need to be drilled quicker in the face of such challenges as equipment and manpower shortages to achieve the goals. This presentation discusses the different strategies that drillers must develop and thinking changes needed to overcome these challenges to be as close as possible to the drilling limit.
Asim Al Zarouni
Manager, Drilling Department, E&P Directorate
ADNOC
Asim started as a Drilling Supervisor with ADMA-OPCO before moving to ADNOC as Senior Drilling Engineer. He then took the responsibilities of the Drilling Engineering Specialist with onshore E&P before taking his current role.
10.20 Networking Break
10.50 Can Drilling Technology Be Used To Overcome The Challenge Of Exploiting Difficult Oil?
The industry is under pressure to drill faster, deeper and more efficiently to meet the ever-increasing targets. Yet with the easy oil already exploited, oil and gas companies are looking to the latest technologies as the solutions to
getting the oil out. Ahmed will explore the realities of implementing solutions in complicated projects.
Ahmed Abou Soliman
Manager, Drilling
ADMA
Ahmed worked in Egypt onshore and offshore drilling operations for GUPCO. In 1981 he joined ADCO in Abu Dhabi until 2007 before moving to ADMA.
11.30 Taking An Innovative Approach To Reducing Drilling Costs
There are many problems, such as how to reduce the cost of drilling, that need novel out-of-the-box solutions. To generate novel solutions, one needs to understand why it is so difficult to “get out-of-the-box”. This presentation will
describe the symptoms and possible solutions that can help teams generate novel options to solve the difficult problems.
Dr Paul Lurie
Advisor on Novel Drilling & Innovation
BP EXPOLRATION
Paul has been working in the innovation field, for the last 40 years. He has been a BP Advisor on Novel Drilling & Innovation for the last five years and Chairman of the Innovation Board for the last two years. He has worked on a range of technologies, including slimhole drilling, multilateral wells,
