09:00 - 12:00 Workshop A: Innovation & Solution Finding Workshop 1: How To Generate Strategies To Drill Lower-Cost Wells
Overview:
This workshop is designed to help teams generate novel options to solve their most diffi cult problems. You will be introduced to two idea generation methods, with case history examples of how they have been used in practice. To reinforce the learning experience, the group will then apply one of the methods to a key issue the industry is facing “how to drill lower cost wells”.
At This Workshop You Will Learn:
- Two new idea generating methods to apply to your strategic thinking to get results in reducing costs
- How to generate novel solutions to operational problems to get quick results
- How to prioritise the ideas generated and action them Allowing You To Leave Able To
- Apply the idea generation methods to save costs during drilling operations
- Come up with novel options to save time and money in the long term
- Work with your team to constantly develop new ideas to enhance project economics
Workshop Leader:
Dr Paul Lurie
Advisor on Novel Drilling & Innovation

Paul has been working in the innovation fi eld, for the last 40 years. He has been a BP Advisor on Novel Drilling & Innovation for the last fi ve years
and Chairman of the Innovation Board for the last two years. He has worked on a range of technologies, including slimhole drilling, multilateral wells,
expandable technology and hard rock drilling.
13:00 - 16:00 Workshop B: Innovation & Solution Finding Workshop 2: How To Increase Productivity From Your Wells
Overview:
This workshop is designed to help teams generate novel options to solve their most diffi cult problems. You will be introduced to two idea generation methods, with case history examples of how they have been used in practice. To reinforce the learning experience, the group will then apply one of the methods to the key issue the industry is facing “how to increase the productivity from your wells”.
At This Workshop You Will Learn:
- How to generate ideas that will increase well productivity
- Ways of tackling specifi c operational problems to get effective solutions
- How to choose solutions that you can implement to see results Allowing You To Leave Able To
- Apply the idea generation methods to solve your own problems in a new way
- Come up with novel options to solve your problems
- Run your own innovation workshop

09:00 - 12:00 Workshop C: Strategies And Technologies That Allow You To Push The Boundaries Of Extended Reach Drilling
Overview:
As you will hear from case studies in the conference, Extended Reach Drilling (ERD) is reaching new world record lengths. This workshop will help you evaluate the risks and show you how to make the correct selection of rig and down-hole technologies as well as identifying the key challenges associated with Extended Reach Wells (ERW).
At This Workshop You Will Learn:
- How to accurately evaluate extended reach projects’ potential prior to implementation
- Strategies for applying a risk-assesment framework that will minimize challenges and save long-term cost
- How to overcome ERW design challenges to set new records for your projects Allowing You To Leave Able To
- Implement the most suitable technologies for optimizing ERD
- Identify potential risks pre-implementation and proactively
13:00 - 16:00 Workshop D: Achieving Optimum Health & Safety Using A Processed Decision-Making Framework
Overview:
The industry is introducing new technologies and higher-risk projects which come with increased health and safety risks. Combined with this is the differing levels of health and safety understandings between employees, contractors and subcontractors resulting in costly mistakes and operational shut-downs. This workshop takes a ‘page-to-practice’ approach to health and safety that creates a process framework that addresses the challenges of varying health and safety cultures to create safer decision making and more effi cient workplace.
At This Workshop You Will Learn:
- The importance of decision making in the health and safety process
- About the cultural challenges that exist in the work place that prevent optimum Health and Safety implementation
- The latest training techniques that will result in high-safety standards for employees and contractor staff, minimizing costly accidents and operational shut-down Allowing You To Leave Able To
- Identify problems in your existing health and safety frameworks
- Reduce accident occurrence and prevent operational shut down caused by accidents
- Design and implement a framework that overcomes cultural challenges
